ORIGINAL REVIEW: 18 December 2004 |
It's mostly a restaurant with the whole place downstairs apart from a few tables upstairs for drinkers. The upstairs tables seem very much out of place though and I can't see them getting much use. Downstairs it's all laid out for eating (and there is excellent food in here - this trip was for a full on Christmas food-fest) apart from a bar area where there's bar stools. Look out for the plaque on the bar area floor where someone crashed and burned. I can't remember if we asked what the story was or not? Probably too busy eating. Anyway, it's a very cosy bar area. G.
I think we were to busy eating but we did ask about the photo at he end of the bar of the 'missing guy' who owed a few hundred quid on a tab that he seems to have conveniently forgotten about whilst simultaneously doing a scarper! He is not popular around Chronicles any more.
This is a restaurant and I would feel out of place coming in for only a drink as the bar area is tiny, though very cosy (I've just read what you put and you used the word cosy as well! Wow, it really must have been super-cosy. The whole place being a cellar type restaurant is rather atmospheric but I have to say, not quite a cool as I was expecting. Very nice though, just missing that cutting edge of class I thought (and like I would know!!). The tables upstairs are odd. New, modern style completely out of place and I'm not sure if they are used really. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE |
There was a bitter on draught - Websters I think - but it wasn't available on this visit. I imagine a few wines behind the bar but a bit lacking on the beer front really. G.
Beer, what beer! I think the lagers were Stella or Kronie but it is a wine bar come restuarant so what do you expect! S.

"I went to a do at Chronicles this Christmas just gone, and I have to say everything about the place was lovely - the food was fab, and the service was top notch!! I went back since, just to sit and share a bottle of wine after work, and it was full of character, relaxing, also great for a bit of privacy. In response to the review I didn't feel out of place at all, there were some comfy leather sofas upstairs which were already taken but we sat in the bar area which had quite a few tables. The barstaff were very polite and welcoming!"

"I LOVE chronicles - admittedly i havent been there many times, because when my hubby and I go it becomes a major drinking session - which ends up in him and his mates ( and whoever else dares drinking flaming lamborghini's- sorry about spelling). I have spent a couple of nights just in the bar area though and t is pretty cosy - but superb. The food here definitely gets a 20 out of 10 rating from me! atmosphere is perfect for work do's as well as a romantic night out!"

"I think this place is brilliant. I am not sure why people think it is not suitable for drinkers, my work colleagues and I have popped in for a glass of vino (or several bottles!) several times and have always found a seat. The place is mostly full of solicitors and accountants but is really cosy and the food is excellent."
