This is the bar on the ground floor of Reading's latest shiny hotel - the Novatel on Friar Street. It looked like it should be a bit posh and interesting, but in fact I thought it was a disappointing typical hotel bar. It was quiet for a Friday night - just a few people probably with rooms there and a table of bouncers planning their night. It would be fine if you were staying here - but there's little point coming here otherwise. Expensive with average service. All the tables and chairs were brand new and funky - but kind of bland and functional. The highlight was getting the lift to the bogs on the first floor. It didn't do it for me. G.
Shiny, new, empty, no atmos and no reason to come here. Most expensive OJ and lemonade in Reading (Cerise might be more though - I'm honestly not sure!) Shame really, they have devoted a big space to the bar but it has high ceilings and you can see through to reception and the lights were on a bit high. I aint not coming back and you can count on that! Or was that a double negative in my slack use of slang! Right, let me clear this up - I wont be coming back to this place anytime soon. Nuff said. Not quite - trendy furniture was good though! S.
