ORIGINAL REVIEW:
15 December 2004

Actually, everything was to the amusement of the jolly bar man, who was an excellent bloke that made the whole pub seem a happy place to be. Futurama was on the widescreen telly behind the bar and provided laughs to the whole pub. We commented on the Euro feel to the place too. It was very bright and warm and just a little crazy with beer promotion flags and posters everywhere. It made you feel you were on an island in the Canaries in summer rather than Reading in winter. There's metal seats in rows down the sides of the (rather thin) building, and amazingly there's actually room for a pool table at the far end. Nice big Zebra picture too. It's not your normal Reading pub that's for sure and I quite enjoyed the place. G.
It sure isn't my old pal. The bar itself was a bit of a tiled treat and as you say, the barman (owner/landlord?) was very happy and I'm guessing he always is. I'm also pretty sure that if you like The Simpsons, Futurama and the like you'll be happy here. It made me think it had quite an American feel with slightly dimmed lighting but the bright Fruit machines by the door. As G said, very busy walls with posters, often at jaunty angles, and a pool table at the back to offer more entertainment. Again, it had a unique friendly bar type feel rather than a just another pub or 'town bar' and that makes it stand out as being worth going back to. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE

A fine lager establishment, but lacking on beer. They usually have Staropramen on draught - but it was unavailable on this visit much to the amusement of the jolly bar man. G.
Indeed, can't go wrong with the lager but I don't expect them to be getting any real beer on anytime soon. It just isn't that kind of place. S

VISITOR FEEDBACK [Give Your Feedback]

"This place is a beauty! At first glance it looks a bit dodgey frokm the outside, but once inside all that changes. The place has a good atmosphere with plenty of music to choose from and a holiday vibe. The bar man is a legend, although I think he still has my can of beans!"

"When they barred my pal Ronnie it started to go downhill. He is quite a lad who kept law and order. It's now a free 4 all most nights with students teabagging pint glasses but the landlord Brett is an absolute telly buff plus I like your pic with my pal Richard in the background. Keep up the good work lads, CHEERS!"
