ORIGINAL REVIEW: 26 October 2004 |
The Southcote is a Beefeater restaurant one side, but retains a full proper pub that's entirely isolated from the chain food half of the place. If you ignored the menus and the bar staff wearing their matching uniforms you could have been in a perfectly pleasant country style pub. There's not too much wrong with the place as it turns out, well looked after, brightly turned out, and a couple of levels of pub including comfy sofas and a decent bar area. There's old style beams but it's a reasonably recently done out interior. The down side might be the lack of proper pub atmosphere as it might be the place people pop in for one while they're waiting for a table next door. Not bad though. G.
There were a few locals at the bar who were happy chatting along with each other and the bar staff as locals do. But the rest of the pub was full of, well me and graham, or should I say Graham and I, and a couple of other people. Pretty empty really, but it was only a Tuesday.
It was a nice enough pub and I'm not sure everyone knows it's here. I know I didn't as I thought it was just the Beefeater. It seemed a little dingy in places to me but I might just be being a bit harsh. I think the beer selection needed to be a bit better as
well. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE |
Not sure I've seen Flowers IPA before - but it was a half decent pint, which I wasn't expecting in the place. G.
What else did they have though Graham, thats the question? S.

"Not a bad place for a quick pint and a quiet chat. Although on our visit midweek it wasn't such a quick pint as it took about 10 mins to get served as the bar staff seamed to favour serving the locals that where aproaching the bar AFTER us! Forgive me for sounding impatient but I'm a great believer in 1st come 1st served :-/"
