The Travellers Rest feels dramatically split into two - there's a reasonable sized proper pub area, but the majority of the place is a huge Brewers Fayre pub restaurant. The building itself is very impressive from the outside, and it is huge inside and recently done up too. There's even a function room tucked around the back somewhere. The pub area was packed out with an obvious group of locals who'd really taken over the place - not much room for passing drinkers! We ended up between the pub and the restaurant which felt a bit strange. The place really did feel like the chain restaurant it is - although the locals aren't letting go! G.
Apparently it is not really recently done up but may have had a lick of paint in the last couple of years! It was pretty smoky in the main area of the pub and because of the lay out there seemed to be a big wasted area in the middle front which wasn't being used and all the drinkers were along the edges, in one busy and obviously popular area (it had the most seating), or around the pool table/wood panelled drawing room effect area! Not sure about this pub myself. It's big and has a lot of dining tables round the back but it's too much of a restaurant chain to be a proper pub. S

The Travellers Rest is a Brakspear tied pub - so usually they have Brakspear bitter and Special on the go. The standard bitter was off, which was no bad thing as the Special was very tasty indeed. It's served through one of those sprinkler systems so it was a bit foamed up - but still tasted good to me! G.
Nice enough brew but it was a bit of that or nothing. Should do better really. S.

"Really enjoyed this pub. The food was lovely and when I caught a glimpse of the chef it put a huge smile on my face! He's gorgeous! Worth visiting."

"Ok for a cheaper but friendly alternative - staff nice though not that speedy! Food came quick and was hot and very good on portion size though was squished on a small plate to look more! Overall good for families or kids as great deals and atmosphere!"
