ORIGINAL REVIEW: 4 December 2004 |
It's a big old pub this one, huge in fact. So big that the two pool tables (plus one other covered up) are miles apart from each other in far corners of the pub. In the middle of the pub the locals were gathered around the bar. Now, in the Clifton Arms we substantially lowered the average age of the punters, in The Star we substantially increased the average age. It's a young persons pub where baseball caps are very much at home. Apparantly the girls got some staring at on the way in and a few "tasteful" compliments directed their way. So that was nice. The fixtures and fittings were a bit battered in places, but I did like the large tarot cards(?) on the walls. G.
You old perve you. This place looks big on the outside and unlike most other pubs that look big on the outside but are tiny inside, it's actually big on the inside as well!! Now, they do say size isn't everything and they could be right. It was quite quiet when we were there but there were a few locals at the bar who seemed to go pretty quite when we came in. The atmosphere wasn't really happening but it was early on in the evening and I expect it could be quite lively on a Friday or Saturday evening.
However, we all just gathered around the pool table, supped our pints and were on our way. S.

BEER EXPERIENCE |
The Courage Best was acceptable - but not much more than that. More of a Stella establishment really. G.
The beer was standard fair once more so it can't be recommended from that point of view. S.

"Now sells Two Bridges beer on a handpump. Ran out last night though :-("

"Went into this pub for the first time in a decade or more. For a Saturday night it was VERY empty - doubt there were more than 10 people in there, which ain't many for such a vast echoing cavern.
Main attraction (for me) was the Two Bridges real ale. Very drinkable, and on special offer at under 2 quid a pint. I will certainly consider going back there although not sure it will vere become my friendly "local"."
