31 December 2004

It's 31 Dec 04 as I write this and it has now been renamed the Outlook! Don't ask me why! But I guess it is still the same in that it's a middle of the road big pub, as G said, attracting office folk with a nice few sofas near the front part of the pub if you can grab one. Not bad with a good sized downstairs when it's open but it's never going to blow your socks off. S.

Big pub-style pub. Well looked after pub attracting office workers. All very neat, tidy and clean with an impressive looking display behind the bar (check out the picture!). Probably a good selection of wine available, but I'm only guessing here. Food only served during the day? They took the menus away before the evening got started. G.
On my second visit here (20 Sep 2004) we discovered that they take the food menus away at 5:30! Strange to say the least. Mind you, it was a bit quiet in here - which meant we got a couple of nice sofas by the windows. G.

Selection of a few real ales, including a seasonal football special - Bateman's Portugoal - which was a dark number that tasted like digestive biscuit beer according to my esteemed drinking colleague. And how right he was. G.
Had the Late Red on a second visit here (20 Sep 2004) - the first sign of Autumn creaping into Reading pubs. Worth adding it to the review because it was a deliciously tasty beer packed with flavour. Shame it's only around in the autumn. G.
Oh, I wish I had had one of those. The second visit helps to highlight what a bonus is it for pubs to stock seasonale beers as it always give another reason to go back somewhere. S.

VISITOR FEEDBACK [Give Your Feedback]

"I have just recently had a leaving party at the outlook after being an office worker drinker there for 18 months or so. The pub is clean and bright with a nice terrace and plenty of sitting space. The layout is traditional which makes you feel like your in a pub unlike the usual clinical sports bars and the staff are great. I have always been happy drinking there and they make you very welcome. I would recommed it!"
